Julus Andrew Parker, 78, of Moravian Falls, was born on March 29, 1946, to Romas Flate and Amanda Tedder Parker. He passed away at Atrium Health Wilkes Medical Center on September 8, 2024.
Andrew is survived by his loving wife, Gayle Childers Parker, daughter Cara Parker (Albert Biggs), sister Gwendolyn (John) White, and sister-in-law Nell Parker. He is also survived by nieces Evelyn (Parks) Allen, Patsy (Tim) Johnson, and Regina (Craig) Brown, as well as nephews Howard (Kay) Harris, Jerry (Denny) Leonard, Darryl (Donna) Church, Gary (Tammy) Church, Kevin (Laura) Church, and Aaron (Kim) White.
Additionally, he is survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Along with his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by sisters Margaret (Fred) Harris, Dorothy Leonard, and Mabel (Max) Church, as well as his brother Eugene Parker and nephew Michael Leonard.
Andrew graduated from Wilkes Central High School and worked at Blue Ridge Shoe Company for many years. Later, he worked at Wilkes Community College until his retirement.
He was proud to be from the Brushy Mountain community and was a lifelong member of Liberty Baptist Church. In 2023, he was honored to serve as the Grand Marshal of the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival.
In addition to being a wonderful husband and father, Andrew’s generosity, kindness, and humor made him a beloved figure in the community. The Parker family would like to extend their gratitude to all the neighbors, friends, and family who generously gave their time to support Andrew during his time of need. They also want to express their appreciation to Andrew’s Home Instead staff and the Wilkes Dialysis Center for their invaluable services.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Tharpe officiating. Entombment at Scenic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum will follow services. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
