Mr. James Ezra Barnes, age 87, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronald Howell. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM prior to the service at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Entombment with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1142 Honor Guard and NC National Guard will be held at Scenic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
He was born June 30, 1937, in Wilkes County to Leathan Barnes of Boomer, NC. He was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln Heights High School; in addition to being a graduate of Morehouse College and North Carolina Central University. He was a member and deacon of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Moravian Falls. He served in the United States Army, was a retired teacher from the Wilkes County School District and a Walmart Associate for over 10 years.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Lee Parsons Howell.
He is survived by three daughters, Anna M. Howell (Walter Ullman) of Goose Creek, SC, Sheliah L. Howell of Wilkesboro, Cathy D. Howell of Charlotte; and one son, Jeffrey Howell (Brenda Howell) of Boomer; and two sisters, Ruby Ann Hilton of Winston-Salem and Susie Nelson of New York.
