Camie Harris Obituary

Mr. Camie Dean Harris, age 91, of Wilkesboro, passed away Friday, February 21, 2025, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 2, 2025, at New Damascus Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Knox officiating. The casket will be placed in the church at 1:30 PM. Burial with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142, Honor Guard will be at Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Saturday March 1, 2025, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. 

Camie was born July 8, 1933, in Wilkes County to Camie Allen and Erie Dobbins Harris. Camie was a member and Deacon of New Damascus Baptist Church, retired teacher with the Wilkes County School System, and a Volunteer Firefighter with Broadway Fire Department. He served in the United States Army and as President of the Harris Reunion for many years. He was a graduate of Lincoln Heights School (1952), a graduate of Shaw University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics (1956), and a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lelar “Odessa” Morrison Harris; four sisters, Ruby Harris, Susie Triplett, Sallie Harris and Patricia Harris; two brothers, Wesley Harris and Hughey Harris.

Camie is survived by one son, Shawn Roderick Harris (Kimberly) of Pittsboro, NC; one daughter, Candace Harris Graham (Tracy) of Statesville, NC; three grandchildren, Jacobi Xavier Harris, Jaela Marchel Harris and Joshua Harris Graham; and a host of nieces and nephews.
