Betty Farmer Ware, 80, of North Wilkesboro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024 at her home. A native of Vernon Hill, Va. Betty was born Aug, 14, 1944, the daughter of the late Maynard and Evelyn Farmer. She graduated from Halifax County High School and later earned her college degree. She worked for 30 years in the banking industry, retiring as the Executive Vice President of First Union National Bank. She then embarked on a 10- year career with H&R Block. Betty was a self-made success. After divorcing her first husband, Stan Coates, she raised their daughter as a single mom, returned to school, and earned her college degree and continued to climb the corporate ladder at a time when many women were trapped under a glass ceiling. In 1988, she married Joe Ware, which began arguably the happiest period of her life. She and Joe were married for 25 years before his passing in 2014. Betty invested her heart and soul into her family, playing an active role in the lives of her grandsons, taking them on trips around the world. She enjoyed her time away at her beach home in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Betty loved to spend her free time baking and working on crafts and she especially enjoyed her work with the card ministry at First United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Ware; sisters, Florence F. Gery and Elsie F. Whitfield; and brother, Jim Farmer.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Huie, son-in-law Randall Huie, and three grandsons, Adam Huie, Dalton Huie and Cole Huie, and his wife Melanie, all of North Wilkesboro.
